WIU Graduate Student Selected as Speaker at Nationally Recognized Cybersecurity Summit (CyAD), Delivers Talk on AI-Driven Authentication Systems
July 13, 2026
MACOMB, IL — Western Illinois University continues to demonstrate leadership in cybersecurity education and research as WIU Cybersecurity graduate student Abiodun Damilare Adebanjo served as a Student Spotlight Speaker at the Cybersecurity Across Disciplines (CyAD) Summit 2026, held in June at Moraine Valley Community College.
Hosted by the National Cybersecurity Training & Education Center and supported by the National Science Foundation, the summit brings together leaders from academia, government and industry to address cybersecurity challenges across critical sectors of the economy.
At the summit, Adebanjo, of Macomb, IL, delivered a TED Talk-style presentation titled "AI-Powered Behavioral Biometrics: Continuous Authentication for Securing Emerging Cyber Systems." Additional details about the presentation and speaker profile can be found on the official summit schedule page, at go.wiu.edu/4aNiWfM.
The presentation was based on a peer-reviewed research publication co-authored by Adebanjo in 2024, which advances the use of artificial intelligence to enable continuous, behavior-based user authentication.
The research introduces a shift from traditional, one-time authentication methods toward continuous and adaptive identity verification, leveraging behavioral patterns such as user interactions and system usage. This approach provides a more resilient defense against credential theft, insider threats and sophisticated cyberattacks that increasingly target cloud platforms, enterprise systems and personal digital accounts.
The scope of Adebanjo's work impacts multiple sectors, including finance, healthcare, government, manufacturing and critical infrastructure, where secure access control and real-time threat detection are essential. By enhancing authentication systems with AI-driven behavioral insights, the research contributes to improving data security, privacy protection, system integrity and operational resilience in an increasingly digital and interconnected economy.
The presentation was delivered to an audience of senior executives, cybersecurity professionals, federal leaders and academic researchers, reflecting both the relevance of the topic and the national importance of advancing innovative cybersecurity solutions.
Adebanjo's work is supported by mentorship from Tahir M. Khan, WIU associate professor and interim director of the WIU Cybersecurity Center. Through his guidance, Adebanjo has continued to develop research that aligns with real-world cybersecurity needs and emerging technological challenges.
Participation in the CyAD Summit highlights the growing role of WIU in contributing to cybersecurity workforce development and applied research. It also reinforces the University's commitment to equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to address nationally significant challenges in cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
Adebanjo's selection and performance as a speaker at a nationally recognized, NSF-supported summit further underscore WIU's mission to foster innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration and impactful research that benefits both industry and society at large.
