WIU Beta Kappa Recognized as Four-Star Chapter

MACOMB, IL — The Beta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha at Western Illinois University was recently recognized as a Four-Star Chapter, celebrating the chapter's commitment to creating a positive and meaningful sorority experience for its members.

This year, Beta Kappa was one of only six Alpha Sigma Alpha chapters nationally to earn the recognition.

The Four-Star Chapter Award is presented to Alpha Sigma Alpha chapters that demonstrate excellence across all areas of the sorority experience, including academics, finances, member education, service and charitable giving, alumni involvement and more.

The recognition reflects Beta Kappa's work to create an experience where members can build friendships, grow as leaders, succeed academically, serve their community and remain connected to Alpha Sigma Alpha beyond their college years.

Beta Kappa Vice President of Communications Lily Rees and Chapter Advisor and alumna Joey Rios-Maher traveled to Alpha Sigma Alpha's National Convention and Leadership Conference in July 2026, where Rees accepted the Four-Star Chapter Award on behalf of the chapter.

The recognition comes during a special year for Alpha Sigma Alpha as the sorority celebrates its 125th anniversary. Beta Kappa's history at Western dates to 1943, connecting generations of women through sisterhood, leadership, service and a shared commitment to Alpha Sigma Alpha's mission of elevating the influence of women in the world.

Today, Alpha Sigma Alpha at WIU continues that legacy by giving Leathernecks a place to find community, step into leadership roles, give back through service and philanthropy and build friendships that last beyond their time at WIU.

Beta Kappa will continue the 125th anniversary celebration in Macomb this November with an event bringing together current members, alumni and friends of the chapter to celebrate Alpha Sigma Alpha, reconnect with Beta Kappa and recognize decades of sisterhood at Western.
