Macomb World War II Living History Weekend Set for October 9-11

MACOMB, IL - - The Macomb community will step back in time during the Macomb World War II Living History Weekend, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Sunday, October 9-11, at Veterans Park, 1800 E. University Drive.

The free public event will provide students, families, veterans, history enthusiasts and community members with an immersive opportunity to experience and learn about World War II.

As part of the weekend's activities, the Western Illinois Museum will host a USO-themed World War II-era music performance by Western Illinois University's Jazz Symphony on the evening of Friday, October 9.

It will also commemorate the impact of World War II on Western Illinois through a U.S. Army Camp Ellis-themed children's recreational area, displays of Camp Ellis artifacts and a Victory Garden.

Authentic World War II reenactors will represent soldiers and civilians from around the world who experienced the war. Reenactors will establish historically themed camps featuring historic vehicles, uniforms, equipment, food and drink and blank-firing replica weapons. Military skirmishes will also be performed daily as part of the living history experience.

The Macomb World War II Living History Weekend draws University students, faculty and staff, regional and local high school groups, veterans, history enthusiasts and community members, while providing an opportunity to highlight the University's connection to the Macomb community and regional history.

Instructors interested in arranging opportunities for their students to speak with specific reenactors may contact WIU History Professor Tim Roberts to make arrangements.
