Brown Receives WIU Presidential Scholarship 2026-27

MACOMB, IL - - Freshman Alexis Brown of Wapello, IA, has been named a recipient of the Western Illinois University President's Scholarship, in conjunction with the AIM High Commitment scholarship. These scholarships cover four years of tuition, fees, a double residence hall room and a standard board for eight semesters.

"We are proud to recognize these students for their accomplishments and academic achievements," WIU President Kristi Mindrup said. "The President's Scholarship provides opportunities for students to continue their education at WIU and pursue their goals and aspirations, all while becoming a part of the Leatherneck community. We are eager to welcome these students and see how their experiences will shape their futures."

In high school, Brown was involved in theatre, poms, basketball, soccer, track, band, choir, National Honor Society, Baseball manager, Future Farmers of America, speech and Grey Matters.

"I chose WIU because I attended a Discover Western and the Theatre Department tour was great. Seeing the facility and speaking to the faculty made my decision easy," Brown said.

At WIU, Brown plans to major in Theatre and Sports Broadcasting and hopes to explore cheer and dance, choir, music and theatre-related activities.

Following graduation, Brown plans to become an actress and/or baseball broadcaster, and dabble in choreography.

To qualify for the WIU President's Scholarship, students must first be awarded WIU's AIM HIGH Western Commitment scholarship. The scholarship decision is also weighted by proof of volunteer and community service.
