English Graduate Organization Conference November 11-12

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University English Graduate Organization and the English and journalism department will hold their second annual Academic Conference on Friday and Saturday
Nov. 11-12.

Keynote speaker Rhoda Janzen, an assistant professor of English at Hope College in Holland (MI), will present “The Canon of Legitimacy: Rethinking Canonicity in the 21st Century” at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 11) in Simpkins Hall 027.

Janzen’s scholarly interests include creative writing, poetry, American literature, modernism, epistemology and sexology. She has received many honors and distinctions, including first prize in the William Butler Yeats National Poetry Competition (1999) and the Chancellor’s Fellowship for Academic Distinction (UCLA, 2000).

Panel discussions will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 12).

All conference events are open free to the public. Registration will be held in the University Writing Center in Simpkins Hall. The Academic Conference is sponsored by the Visiting Lecturer’s Committee.
