WIU Grad Student Awarded Scholarship

Stephanie Green, a Western Illinois University community health graduate student from Ontario, Canada, was recently awarded the Barbara A. Cooley Scholarship for achievement in health education.

The award is presented by the American Association for Health Education. Green is currently completing an assistantship in Western’s community health and health services management department. She is a member of Western's Pi Chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma, the professional health education honorary. As an undergraduate student at the University of Western Ontario, Green contributed to the Health Science and Nursing Peer Mentors program and also worked as an academic orientation leader.

She has received the Citizenship Award and Honor Award from her undergraduate alma mater, and received the Award for Outstanding Community Leadership from the Markham Optimists Club in Ontario. In addition, Green has served as an anti-violence program facilitator for UWO Equity Services and the Thames Valley School District , as a learning disabilities tutor and as a speech-language communication assistant for adults with stroke related communication disorders.

Green will receive the Cooley award, including the $1,000 scholarship, at the American Association for Health Education convention in March.
