WIU-QC Open for Business
July 28, 2008
MOLINE, IL -- After a nearly five-day closure, the Western Illinois University-Quad Cities campus is open for business once again.
The WIU-QC campus closed July 21 after a severe storm downed power lines and trees throughout the QC region. The Quad Cities campus was without power from July 21 through the evening of July 25. All classes were relocated to the Graduate Study Center in Rock Island through July 27.
"We are glad to be back in our building once again so we can pick up where we left off before the storm hit, registering students for the Fall 2008 semester and meeting with prospective students who are interested in attending WIU-QC," noted Joe Rives, executive assistant to the president for Quad Cities, Planning and Technology. "Classes begin in just a few short weeks, and we're busy gearing up for the new semester. We're especially excited to begin the Fall 2008 semester as we have new undergraduate and graduate programs in liberal arts and sciences and a new master's degree in museum studies beginning this year."
In addition to the new program offerings, three electronic classrooms have been upgraded and new computers have been installed in the WIU-QC Library.
"We were in the midst of the new semester preparations when the storm forced us to close campus; now it's back to business as usual," Rives said.
