MACOMB, IL -- The Western Survey Research Center (WSRC) at Western Illinois University and the WIU political science department will conduct exit polling during the Tuesday, Nov. 4 election.

According to David Rohall, associate professor of sociology and WSRC director, the goal of the polling is to give students firsthand experience at the procedures used in exit polls across the nation. Students from several departments will conduct the polls, and results will be shared with the community.

"This is a valuable opportunity for our students. We traditionally don't see this kind of work being done at the local level, so this work may also benefit the town and region more broadly," said political science professor Keith Boeckelman.

Exit polling will take place at Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb and another location to be determined. Participation is voluntary and anonymous.

The WSRC opened in 2004 to provide students experience in survey methods and to offer survey services to the region. Since its inception, the center has worked with numerous local and state agencies to conduct a variety of polls, including the 2006 McDonough County Poll and the 2008 Illinois Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Recreation Survey.
