WIU to Recognize Women's History Throughout March
March 4, 2009
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - The Western Illinois University Women's Center will commemorate the significant roles women have played in American history and contemporary society with a series of events in conjunction with National Women's History Month (WHM) throughout March.
"Once again we have collaborated with members of the campus and surrounding communities to compile an outstanding calendar of events offering a variety of educational, cultural and entertainment opportunities that highlight women's historic achievements," said Women's Center Director Janine Cavicchia.
In addition, Women's History Month displays, created by Women's Center staff and volunteers, are featured in the University Union (south entrance); Malpass Library (third floor, east entrance); Macomb City Hall; and at the WIU-Quad Cities campus, Cavicchia noted.
The 2009 national theme is "Women Taking the Lead to Save Our Planet." The Women's Center will honor women who have taken the lead in the "green" movement by posting profiles on the center's web site, wc.wiu.edu.
