WIU Marching Band Classic

MACOMB, IL - - The 28th Annual Western Illinois University Marching Band Classic will bring high school bands from across Illinois together for field competition Saturday, Oct. 10 at WIU's Hanson Field.

The band classic features competition as a two-division championship format. Overall champion trophies will be awarded in the small school division (Classes 1A, 2A) as well as in the large school division (Classes 3A, 4A). Placement trophies will be awarded to all bands in each class and trophies will be awarded for best drum major(s), percussion, winds and auxiliaries in each division.

Admission to the event is $7 for adults, $3 for students and free for children five and under. In the case of inclement weather, the Marching Band Classic will be moved into Western Hall.

The event will begin at 3:30 p.m. with the WIU Marching Leathernecks playing the National Anthem. Participating schools and their performance times are:

Class 1A (up to 300 students)
3:36 p.m. – Prophetstown (IL) High School Marching Band, director Jane Ann Davis.
3:53 p.m. – Hamilton (IL) High School Marching Band, director Mike McDermott.
4:10 p.m. – Wethersfield (Kewanee, IL) High School Marching Geese, director Jay Hagaman.

Class 2A (301 to 600 students)
4:27 p.m. – Illini West (Carthage, IL) High School Marching Chargers, director Linda Hartweg.
4:44 p.m. – Auburn (IL) High School Marching Trojans, director Bekah Philbrick.
5:01 p.m. – Kewanee (IL) High School Marching Boilermakers, director Eric Hollaway.
5:28 p.m. – Rushville-Industry (Rushville, IL) High School Marching Rockets, director Jody Worthington.
5:45 p.m. – Tri-Valley (Downs, IL) High School Viking Marching Band, director Dan Marcotte.
6:02 p.m. – Macomb (IL) Sr. High School Marching Bomber Band, director David Wetmore.
6:10 p.m. – Rockridge (IL) High School Marching Rockets, director Jake Walker.

Class 3A (601 to 1, 000 students)
6:36 p.m. – Jacksonville (IL) High School Marching Crimsons, director Steve Thorne.

Class 4A (1, 001 students and up)
6:53 p.m. – Alan B. Shepard (Palos Heights, IL) High School Marching Astros, director Christopher Pitlik.

Western Illinois University Marching Leathernecks will perform at 7:10 p.m., following the large division competition; and the award ceremony is set for 7:35 p.m.
