MACOMB, IL – Don Myers, bookstore department supervisor for the Western Illinois University Bookstore, has been named the WIU December Civil Service Employee of the Month.

According to his nominators, "Don does his job with a good attitude. He is focused and dedicated. He clearly ascribes to the idea of 'What you must do, do cheerfully.'

"Don got the textbook rental program running by selecting 27 in-store titles to pilot the program, and he was able to purchase books from new online sources to reduce books by 25-50 percent in some cases," his nominators added. "He works hard, going entirely above and beyond the call of duty regularly, and he does it all with a level of customer service that can only be described as remarkable. Don directly affects the lives of each and every member of our campus community."

Myers was hired as an extra help clerk II in the University Union Bookstore in May 1997, December 1997 and May 1998. He was hired as the bookstore department supervisor in April 2001.

"We applaud Don for providing outstanding customer service and for his commitment and dedication to Western," said Carla Farniok, Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) public relations representative.

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this recognition should contact Farniok at (309) 298-2182 or e-mail CM-Farniok@wiu.edu.
