WIU Mourns Passing of Marianne Woods

MACOMB, IL - - Marianne Woods, 55, associate professor in kinesiology at Western Illinois University, passed away Dec. 17. Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church at 376 W. Hail St., Bushnell (IL), and at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshall (MI).

Woods joined Western's kinesiology faculty in 2006. Previously, she served as an assistant professor of physical education at Ball State University and an associate and assistant professor of physical education at the University of Idaho.

Woods also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1982-86. In addition, she served as a sport administrator for the Department of the Army in Kaiserslautern, Germany, from 1986-91. In 2004, she was honored with a Distinguished Service Award by the Idaho Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Woods earned her bachelor's degree in physical education (1977) at Olivet College (Olivet, MI); her master's degree in physical education (1993) at Central Missouri State University (now University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg); and her doctorate in education in physical education pedagogy (1995) from the University of Northern Colorado.
