AAS Film Screening and Discussion of "The Glass Shield" April 4

MACOMB, IL –"The Glass Shield, " a 1994 film starring Western Illinois University alumnus Michael Boatman which tackles racial issues, will be screened and discussed by members of Western's Department of African American Studies from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 4 in Morgan Hall 109.

Boatman portrays J.J., a rookie in the sheriff's department and the first black officer in a Los Angeles County station, who is eager to fit in and fight crime. Fellow officers resent his presence, adding to racial tension; but he befriends another new trooper, the first female officer (Lori Petty) in the department. He witnesses corruption and has to make difficult and dangerous decisions. The film, directed by Charles Burnett, includes Ice Cube, Richard Anderson and Elliott Gould.
