Greek Life

Fraternity and Sorority Life at WIU

Welcome to Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) at Western Illinois University! Your years in college will include several different and exciting experiences, but none of those opportunities have the potential to be as complete as your experience as a member of a fraternity or sorority. The core purpose of each fraternity and sorority is to create better men and women through leadership, service, scholarship, and social opportunities. Although each chapter is unique, every organization promotes similar values and ideals.

Western Illinois University is proud of its strong fraternity and sorority tradition. We offer 28 different National fraternities & sororities for students to choose from. Members of our organizations are heavily involved in campus and community organizations as well as in inter-fraternal committees like Greek Week, Rho Lambda, and Order of Omega.

As you look through our website, you will find various information, chapter facts, and pictures of the fraternity and sorority community in action. If you would like additional information or want to become involved in a fraternity or sorority, please contact the Office of Student Enagement.

Mission Statement

Fraternity and Sorority Life in the Office of Student Enagement at Western Illinois University, in support of a diverse and thriving fraternity and sorority community, will provide opportunities and resources to assist in the learning and development of students as members of self-governing and values based organizations while promoting positive citizenship, informed decisions and empowerment and making meaningful contributions to university and local community.

Core Values

Leadership

Fraternity and Sorority Life provides students with a wide variety of leadership opportunities.  Members can participate within their chapter as an officer or on one of three governing councils, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, and United Greek Council.  Our fraternities and sororities encourage active participation in leadership experiences within and outside of our community.  We believe in leading by example through exemplifying the values by which we were founded upon.

Scholarship

Our community supports and believes in academic excellence.  Each chapter maintains grade point average (GPA) requirements to join their organization and maintain membership.  To assure continuing academic growth, chapters and councils provide scholastic assistance through various academic plans including study hours, tutoring, study groups specific to majors, and educational programming.

Community Service

The opportunity to give is one of the most rewarding experiences in our community.  We believe that it is a rewarding part of the human experience to work together to help others.  By striving to raise awareness of social issues throughout the community, we make service a part of the way we live and part of who we are.

True Friendship

Being a member of a fraternity or sorority creates deep bonds of friendship and loyalty that provides an individual with a sense of family throughout their lifetime.  We believe that the true friendship associated with fraternity and sorority life moves beyond individual chapters and reaches out to include chapters from each council.

Accountability

In our community we believe we share a set of common values.  We work together as peers and as a community to support each other and hold each other accountable according to University standards, council standards, and each chapter's standards and values.
