Greek Life

Recognized FSL Governing Councils at Western Illinois University

At WIU, we have three governing councils that provide governance, accountability, educational opportunities, programming, and structure for our chapters: the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Panhellenic Council (PHC), and the United Greek Council (UGC).

Interfraternity Council (IFC)

The Interfraternity Council’s purpose is to advance fraternity on campus and provide interfraternal leadership to the entire community. Members of the council consist of 5 executive board members, three committee chairs, and 2 voting delegates from each of the 11 fraternities. The council provides programming, camaraderie, and information to the members of IFC through a variety of opportunities.

Panhellenic Council (PHC)

The Panhellenic Council is the governing body over the five National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities located on our campus. It is the responsibility of the Council to unite all 5 chapters in the spirit of community, to enforce the NPC guidelines, and to oversee and regulate the recruitment process. The Council works year-round to promote positive ideals of sorority life at WIU and contribute to the WIU community through involvement, leadership, academic, philanthropic projects, school spirit, and overall support. Members of the council consist of 9 executive board members and 2 delegates from each of the 5 sororities.

United Greek Council (UGC)

The United Greek Council's purpose is to unify and organize students that seek to promote diversity and cohesion on campus and in the community. The council seeks to encourage cooperation and harmony among member organizations, provide educational programs and service the needs and wants of member organizations.  Members of the council consist of 7 council executive officers and a voting delegate from each of the 13 member chapters.
