Student Life
Pregnant and Parenting Students
We understand that balancing academics with pregnancy or parenting obligations can be challenging. To assist our pregnant students, students with pregnancy-related medical conditions, and students who become new parents (including parents adopting or fostering to adopt) for the first six months a child is in the home, Western Illinois University has a Pregnant and Parenting Students Policy. The Student Development and Success Center works with students who are navigating pregnancy and parenting issues covered by the policy in relation to classroom adjustments.
The SDSC will help by communicating pregnant and parenting needs such as absences, missed work, adjustments to seating arrangements, and more to you and your faculty members. Please contact the Student Development and Success Center by emailing verification of your pregnancy/parenting status documentation to sdsc@wiu.edu . Once this is received, we will look forward to talking with you to find what adjustments are needed now, and going forward, to help you be successful in your academic journey.
