The Career Advantage
RPTA gives you the flexibility to work at recreation, health and
human services agencies.
The Accreditation Advantage
The RPTA program is accredited by the National Recreation
and Park Association (NRPA).
About Us
Students enrolled in the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration (RPTA) at Western Illinois University-Quad Cities study either Leisure
Services Administration or Therapeutic Recreation and are educated to work as professionals at recreation, health and human services agencies.
The RPTA program is a professional preparation degree that develops not only students’ transferable skills (e.g., critical thinking, communication and writing skills, organizational abilities) but also specific job competencies (e.g., leisure programming, evaluation and leadership skills).
The RPTA-QC program is designed to provide the 60 semester hours of upper division courses necessary for students with an Associate’s degree to complete the requirements for their Bachelors of Science degree in Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration. RPTA-QC classes are on a student-friendly block schedule so that classes meet once a week. As well, classes are grouped together so students can take one class after another which cuts down their commuting time to WIU-QC.
