About Me

Dr. Megan McGruder is a proud WIU alumna, having earned both her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Science in Education in Counselor Education from the university. She then went on to receive her PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision from Capella University. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) with more than 18 years of experience in the mental health field. Her professional background includes clinical practice, counselor education, clinical supervision, crisis response, and leadership in higher education counseling and well-being.

Dr. McGruder is passionate about preparing future counselors to provide ethical, compassionate, and culturally responsive care. Her clinical and scholarly interests include trauma-informed care, counselor development, wellness, and professional identity. She has specialized training in EMDR, Brainspotting, and Clinical Hypnotherapy and integrates evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches into her teaching, supervision, and clinical work.
