Just Hired: Claire DeGraaf

Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Western Illinois University has some incredible alumni who are changing the world in the workforce. This series will feature students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University Art Teacher Education graduate, Claire DeGraaf, recently accepted a teaching position at West Prairie Junior High/High School.

DeGraaf met the school district representatives at the WIU Career Fair hosted by the WIU Career Center. At this event, she was able to network and they reached out to her directly, asking her to interview.

"After a couple of interviews, I was offered the opportunity to teach art," DeGraaf said.

DeGraaf said that through WIU's curriculum, she was able to learn to manage a classroom, receive content to teach and meet the needs of any and all students.

She plans to stay involved with WIU through community events.

"I plan to attend the Department of Art and Design's community events, such as First Wednesday, and possibly even meet with students," DeGraaf said.
