SLC Testing Center

The SLC Testing Center is available for students who have received testing accommodations from Disability Resources in the Student Development and Success Center (SDSC). If you have not been granted testing accommodations by Disability Resources, please connect with them by emailing disability@wiu.edu.

All regular exams, test, and quizzes must be scheduled at least 3 business days in advanced of the test date to allow us time for communicating with professors and processing.

Exam Scheduling Procedures

  1. Complete the SLC Testing Center Request Form. You will have to submit a new form for each exam you will be taking.
  2. When selecting a begin time for your exam, make sure your begin time allows for your extended time within exam service hours. When possible, you should be taking your exam at the same time as the rest of the class.
  3. Make sure to select the accommodations you are eligible for only. If you feel you do not require the accommodation you were granted, you are not required to select the choice.
  4. Type any extra information in the “Additional Information” box in the JotForm. Note this is to give any clarity on items your instructor may have granted for you to use for your exam. The SLC Testing Center will very with your instructor any information entered in the "Additional Information" box to ensure we are providing the exam as intended with consideration of your approved accommodations.
  5. Once you have completed all sections, click on the “Submit” button at the bottom of the JotForm.
  6. All Exams MUST BE SCHEDULED AT LEAST 3 BUSINESS DAYS ahead of the test date. (Weekends and University Closed days do not count). This will allow us enough time for communication with professors. If you do not schedule your exam before the 3 business day deadline, you may not be able to take the exam in our space and will have to work with your instructor.
  7. If you have difficulty submitting the JotForm, please contact the Student Learning Center staff at 309-298-1871, slc@wiu.edu or come to our office in Memorial Hall 024.

Scheduling Final Exams

  1. Professors do not set their own final exam times. The University sets them according to a master schedule that can be found at (link). Please use this schedule to determine when your final will be.
  2. All finals are 1 hour and 50 minutes. This means each final with time and a half is 2 hours and 45 minutes and double time is 3 hours and 40 minutes. If you are thinking 1 hour and 50 minutes will be enough time to take your exam, select “Waive Time Accommodation” in the “Time Accommodations” section.
  3. Be sure to avoid scheduling conflicts. Please schedule all finals as close as possilbe to the scheduled final start time. If an alternative date is needed, you must get it approved with your instructor.
  4. It is imperative that you schedule finals as early as possible. The number of exams given by the Student Learning Center (SLC) requires a great deal of planning ahead. The only way to ensure you are able to take your final at the SLC Testing Center with accommodations at the scheduled time is to schedule them before the deadline. Students who do not schedule before the deadline run the risk of having to take exams on the Friday of finals week or with the rest of the class, potentially without accommodations.

SLC Testing Center Policies

  1. Alternate Dates & Times: Exams should be scheduled as close to the date and time the rest of the class is taking the exam as possible. Alternate dates and times must be discussed with instructors prior to scheduling. The instructor MUST INFORM EXAM SERVICES YOU HAVE PERMISSION TO TAKE THE EXAM ON A DIFFERENT DATE. You will not be required to miss class to get accommodations or to forgo accommodations because of concurrent scheduling; however alternative plans must be communicated to your instructors for prior approval.
  2. Tardy for Exams: A student who is more than 15 minutes late to take an exam will be asked to get approval from the instructor before being allowed to begin the exam. In addition, students will be asked to end the exam at the originally scheduled end time.
  3. Missed Exams: If a student misses an exam, they must get the professor’s permission to reschedule the exam at the SLC Testing Center. The professor should send notice of approval via email to SLC@wiu.edu.
  4. Using Additional Materials: It is the instructor’s responsibility to notify the SLC Testing Center of any additional materials that are allowed to be used during the exam. It is discriminatory for students in the classroom to be allowed the use of additional materials, when students testing at the SLC Testing Center do not have access to those materials. Once test materials have been confirmed with the Testing Center, the faculty should notify of any changes at least a day in advance to ensure we can notify the student using the space.
  5. Cheating: Exams administered at SLC Testing Center are monitored by a live proctor. All unapproved quiz/exam materials are to be left with SLC Testing Center staff prior to entering the test room. A student caught cheating will be asked to stop the exam immediately. The exam and any additional materials used will be sent back to the instructor along with a SLC summary of the situation.
