1098-T Information
What is a 1098-T
It is an informational record of financial information reported by Western Illinois University to the IRS. The information can help you determine if you’re eligible for education tax credits. More information is available in IRS Publication 970: Tax Benefits for Education.
When will I receive my 1098-T?
Forms are available in STARS by the end of January. Students are notified via their WIU email as soon as they’re ready to view.
How do I view my 1098-T?
To access your form, log into your STARS account, click the ‘Financials’ tab, and select the link ‘Tax Relief Act 1098-T Form’. From there, you can download and print a PDF.
Am I eligible for a 1098-T?
WIU makes forms available for all students, but forms won’t be submitted to the IRS if the student is a nonresident alien without a TIN/SSN on file.
How do I submit my SSN/TIN to WIU?
Students can fill out a W-9S form here and email it to billings@wiu.edu or drop it off in Sherman Hall 106.
I need help with my 1098-T form. Who do I contact?
WIU recommends consulting a trained tax professional to help you with your 1098-T and educational tax credit questions. The Billing & Receivables Office CANNOT provide tax advice.
