  • Responsibilities:

    FUNCTION: Assists with multiple Access Services functions and has primary responsibility for I-Share resource-sharing issues. Opens and oversees Malpass Library on Sunday afternoons.

    Work hours: Sunday through Thursday, 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm

    Public Services

    • Supports the circulation and information functions, answering questions regarding location and availability of items, explaining library policy and procedures, resolving complaints, correcting errors, and mitigating frustrations
    • Applies and explains the circulation procedures of WIU libraries and other libraries within the CARLI consortium.
    • Instructs patrons on how to renew items, request material through ILL, and access and utilize their accounts in I-Share.
    • Identifies and remedies user problems with the cataloging and circulation systems
    • Provides basic search assistance to users and refers specific questions to the appropriate library unit

    Courier Services

    • Supervises students and staff on the shipment of materials through Interlibrary Loan Delivery System (ILDS).
    • Maintains contact with ILDS delivery service to ensure proper delivery procedures are followed. Troubleshoots delivery problems and scheduling.
    • Assists with processing interlibrary loan requests and retrieving requested materials
    • Ensures incoming and outgoing ILDS shipments are processed in a timely manner.
    • Contacts I-Share libraries regarding damaged items being returned to them.
    • Assists I-Share libraries over the phone and via e-mail concerning renewals and problematic items.

    Administrative

    • Opens and manages the building on Sunday afternoons and trains students on opening procedures
    • Acts as the Sunday afternoon contact with other campus entities such as Facilities Management and OPS
    • Identifies, investigates, evaluates, and solves patron problems.
    • Trains and assigns work to student assistants in stacks area of circulation. Monitors their job performance to ensure consistency and high-level service.
    • Interprets policies and procedures and refers problems to Unit Coordinator
    • Assists Unit Coordinator in compiling unit statistics.
  • Required Qualifications:
    1. High school diploma or equivalent.
    2. Any one or combination totaling one (1) year (12 months) from the following categories:
      1. work experience in a library or equivalent setting or general clerical or office/clerical related customer service experience.
      2. college course work in any field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
        • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
        • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
        • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
        • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
  • Starting Salary: $14.00/hour
