Big Pink Volleyball Oct. 8-11, Kick Off Event Slated for Sept. 27

MACOMB, IL – Big Pink is back… for the 12th time! Western Illinois University's Big Pink Volleyball (BPV), an annual breast cancer awareness fundraiser, will be held from 4-11 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8-Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center on WIU's Macomb campus. Registration and entry fee ($5 per person) for the single-elimination volleyball tournament is due by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 in the Campus Recreation Office.

A BPV Kick Off event is slated from 8-10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Spencer Recreation Center. The kick off event will feature music and prizes, and individuals and teams can pick up registration packets.

According to WIU Campus Recreation Associate Director Judy Yeast, since 2002, Western Illinois University's Big Pink Volleyball tournament has raised $83,439.35 for mammograms, other cancer-screening programs and breast cancer research. Since it started, Yeast noted, 9,445 students, faculty and staff have participated in the annual tourney at Western.

All proceeds from the Big Pink Volleyball tourney at WIU will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, McDonough District Hospital's digital mammogram services and other cancer-screening programs.
