MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University's Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) fraternity will donate $13,500 raised from its 20th annual Smokin' Hog fundraiser to a local charitable organization.

According to AGR President Jeremy Wolf (Dixon, IL), a WIU senior majoring in agricultural business, this year's event was held Oct. 6 at the AGR house (1010 N. Lafayette, Macomb) and raised a total of $22,610.37, $13,500 of which (after covering the event's expenses) will be donated to the McDonough County Volunteers Interested in Benefitting Everyone (VIBE) organization, a group of volunteers that raises money annually for local not-for-profit organizations.

"We smoked seven hogs this year and served more than 700 people. We had a bounce house for the children, awesome raffle items, a fire truck and police cruiser on display and face painting by Western's Delta Zeta sorority. It was an incredible event, and we surpassed the amount we raised last year, which was $13,300," Wolf said.

Wolf added the AGR members are "extremely" proud of the Smokin' Hog event and the philanthropic effort it has evolved into over the years.

"The men of Alpha Gamma Rho work hard to extinguish stereotypes surrounding fraternities, and philanthropies like Smokin' Hog help to do this. It also helps us put into practice one of our University's values, which is social responsibility. As the president of AGR, I offered the incentive of shaving my head any way my fellow AGR members wanted it for a week if we reached $20,000… let's just say it doesn't look good," Wolf said.
