MACOMB, IL -- Just in time for holiday gift-giving, Western Illinois University's featured Jumpy Monkey coffee, "Think Purple Perk," complete with the Western Illinois University Rocky head "sweep" logo, will be available for purchase next month by the bag at Hy-Vee in Macomb and by the cup at The Old Dairy in downtown Macomb. The coffee is also available at wholesale for WIU fundraisers.

Last month, University Relations, in conjunction with University Marketing, sponsored a contest to name the new coffee flavor after some aspect of WIU. The winning entry - "Think Purple Perk" - was submitted by Eva Fisher of Western's School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach. Fisher will receive a year's supply of the themed coffee and other coffee-related products.

Mosaic, a non-profit organization with local offices in Macomb and Bushnell, asked Western to partner with the organization to name a WIU-themed coffee flavor. The beans are roasted in Sioux City, Iowa, and the packaging, grinding and delivery is handled at Mosaic's Bushnell facility. Both Jumpy Monkey Coffee and Mosaic work exclusively with persons with disabilities.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to further market Western within the region, as well as promote our core value of social responsibility," Brad Bainter, vice president of advancement and public services, said. "The production of this coffee provides meaningful work for persons with disabilities, and adding a WIU-exclusive name to the brand's line-up provides additional job opportunities through both Jumpy Monkey and Mosaic."
