MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- A test of the WIU Emergency Alert System's (WEAS) SMS text messaging will be initiated at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 to test system functionality. Only a text message will be delivered as part of this test; no voice calls or e-mails will be initiated.

Individuals receiving a text do not need to take any action. When a text message is received, simply read the test message and then delete the message. The test message will be delivered to every SMS phone number in the WEAS emergency contact database.

The message used for the test will be: "[WIU Alert]: You are set to receive txt alerts per acct settings. For more info reply "HELP". To opt out reply "STOP [WIU]" Msg&data rates may apply."

The WEAS is designed to notify WIU students and employees at both the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses of emergency situations (severe weather, serious threats to safety, etc.) via voice, text and e-mail messages. The University will only activate the system for emergency purposes.

Students and employees are encouraged to review and update their emergency contact information through STARS or WIUP.
