Dear WIU Employees:

Earlier this week, we joined with other Illinois state public university presidents and chancellors to support a pension reform proposal from the Institute of Government and Public Affairs (IGPA) at the University of Illinois. The six-point proposal can be found at http://igpa.uillinois.edu/node/1753. In addition, a letter was sent to Governor Pat Quinn and legislative leaders detailing support for the IGPA proposal.

This proposal is a step in the right direction. It opens the door for further discussion and provides some basic principles to help state universities and colleges, as well as the General Assembly, better plan for the future. By supporting this initiative, the public universities of Illinois are engaging in dialogue with state leaders that will protect our employees from extreme proposals and will ensure the survival of our pension system.

We greatly appreciate your continued support during these challenging times. We will continue to work with our legislators and other universities to seek support for higher education, which includes a fully-funded pension system.

Sincerely,

Jack Thomas
President
