John Cooper’s “Baecker Jazz Worship Service” April 28

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Jazz Studio Orchestra (JSO) will perform Director of Jazz Studies John Cooper's "Baecker Jazz Worship Service" at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28 at the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, 400 E. Carroll St., in Macomb.

The "Baecker Jazz Worship Service" is a seven-movement composition that can be seen as either stand-alone pieces or a full worship service. The movements include, "In the Beginning," a modern jazz interpretation of the Book of Genesis; "Gospel John 21;" "St. Anthony's Light,' a hard bop gospel melody; a New Orleans strut "Offertory;" "Doxology;" "Communion;" and "This Little Light of Mine."

JSO presented the "Baecker Jazz Worship Service" at the United Church of Christ's 50th anniversary celebration service on April 21, 2007 at the First Federation Church of Peoria. It has been performed throughout Illinois and in Detroit.

The event is open free to the public, but donations are accepted. Money raised from the performance will support Jazz Worship Service's education initiative in Macomb.
