U.S.News Again Ranks WIU a 'Best Midwestern University'

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- For the ninth consecutive year, Western Illinois University has been ranked among the best regional universities in U.S.News and World Report's annual College Rankings 2014 edition.
In the U.S.News and World Report rankings, Western is listed 48th of 110 public and private schools on the top tier list of "Best Regional Universities." The institutions appearing on the "Best Regional Universities" list provide a full range of undergraduate majors and masters' programs, but offer few, if any, doctoral programs. The rankings are based on several measures: peer assessment (22.5%), graduation and retention rates (22.5%), faculty resources (20%), student selectivity (12.5%), financial resources (10%), graduation rate performance (7.5%) and alumni giving (5%).
Of the 39 public universities included, Western is ranked 13th among the 110 Midwestern universities recognized as a "Best Midwestern University."
In addition to the "Best Midwestern" ranking, Western is also recognized as a "best" institution by U.S.News and World Report for graduation rates (six-year); freshman retention rates; least debt (class of 2012); highest proportion of classes under 20 students; most international students; economic diversity; and campus ethnic diversity.

In addition to the U.S.News ranking, for the 10th consecutive year, The Princeton Review recently named Western a "Best Midwestern College." Western was one of 153 regional universities, and one of three Illinois public institutions, named a "Best Midwestern College" by The Princeton Review.
