MACOMB, IL – Current and retired employees of Western Illinois University, as well as State of Illinois employees, who have not received a flu shot yet this season can still receive one free flu shot each from the McDonough County Health Department in Macomb.

According to Kerri Allen, community health director/public health nurse, the department is under contract with the State of Illinois through the end of December to administer flu shots to state employees.

"We still have quite a number of vaccines left for individuals, and several for individuals who are over 65 years old," Allen said. "We want to make sure we are not scrambling to get rid of many of these in January when people start thinking less about the possibility of needing the vaccine. Retired employees who receive Medicare, should bring their cards with them when they come in to get the flu shot from us at the McDonough County Health Department."

Flu shot appointments can be made by contacting the McDonough County Health Department, which is open Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and is located at 505 E. Jackson St. in Macomb, at (309) 837-9951.

For more information, contact Allen at (309) 837-9951, ext. 205, or via email at kallen@mchdept.com.
