MACOMB, IL — Join the Western Illinois University Philanthropy Club this weekend for all or part of a 48-hour voting marathon to vote Western into the Final Four of the NCAA's 6th Fan Competition! "Rock" the Vote honors the indomitable fighting spirit of Marine Col. Ray "Rock" Hanson as Western pushes for victory in the competition.

Thanks to the constant support of Leatherneck fans this month, WIU first advanced to the Sweet Sixteen and then to the Elite Eight of the NCAA 6th Fan Competition. For making the Sweet Sixteen cut, Western earned $10,000 toward the University's general scholarship fund. The winner of the overall competition will win $100,000, which will be put toward the University's general scholarship fund, as well.

Individuals, student organizations and Western's Greek community are invited to the voting marathon—scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 through 6 p.m. Sunday, March 2 in Morgan Hall 124—to lock down another Leatherneck victory. While the voting marathon is set for 48 hours, individuals are encouraged to keep voting through Sunday evening until the Final Four winners are announced (at 11 p.m. CT)... and then start voting for Western again!

Food, music and raffle prizes will be provided by Western Illinois Athletics. Friends and alumni are encouraged to join in the voting (vote online at 6thfan.ncaa.com or via Twitter by using the hashtags #6thfan #WILL), and visit Western's official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/wiu.edu) for photos and updates throughout the event.

Known as "Mr. Leatherneck," Col. Hanson served as athletic director for 38 years. Hanson has the longest tenure of any head football coach at Western, and he served as the basketball and baseball coach for many years. A highly decorated war hero (he served in both World Wars), Hanson was directly responsible for permission to use the U.S. Marine Corps nickname and insignia granted to Western.

Seating will be limited. Groups are encouraged to sign up for blocks of time by emailing phonathon@wiu.edu or by registering at http://bit.ly/1fIqJtf.
