Wong Named CAS Distinguished Alumna

MACOMB, IL – Immigration attorney Margaret Wong, of Cleveland, OH, has been named the 2014 Western Illinois University College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Distinguished Alumna Award winner.

Wong graduated from WIU in 1973 with a degree in biology. She will be presented with the award at the annual CAS scholarship dinner Saturday, Nov. 1 in the University Union Lamoine Room.

Wong will also speak about her personal history and how she faced language and cultural barriers at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 in Morgan Hall, room 109. During the event, Wong will speak about why there is a need for immigration changes and the seven traits of a successful professional.

As an immigrant, Wong said she has found herself "living the American Dream," and she is also an entrepreneur. Wong is a co-chair of the Immigration Law Committee for the National Asian Pacific Bar Association; chair of the immigration law section of the Cleveland Bar Association; was named to Crain's Cleveland Businesses' "Women of Influence" list; was inducted into the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame in 2000 and was the first Asian-American president of the north-eastern chapter of the Federal Bar Association.
