MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University's Inter-Hall Council (IHC), Resident Assistant (RA) Council and University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) will hold WIU's Residence Halls Safe Trick-or-Treat event from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

Children ages 2-12 are invited to trick or treat, play games and meet other "goblins" in a safe environment. Guides will be provided through the residence halls; however, all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Trick-or-treating: Bayliss-Henninger (enter through the Henninger Hall basement); Corbin-Olson (enter through the east entrance of Olson Hall); Lincoln/Washington/Grote (enter through Grote Hall); Tanner Hall (enter at north door); Thompson Hall (enter through the Thompson Hall main lobby).

In addition, RA Council members will present a "Haunted Housing," a haunted house experience suitable for younger children from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 30 in Thompson Hall. A "scarier" haunted hall will be held from 7-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Oct. 24-25, and Wednesday-Friday, Oct. 29-31 also in Thompson Hall.

While the trick-or-treat events are free of charge, the Haunted Housing admission fee is $5 per person or $3 and a nonperishable food item.

"This is a great way for kids to trick-or-treat in a safe environment. Parents don't have to worry about traffic or bad weather," said Mishelle Oaks, director of residence life at Western. "A part of our mission is to build strong communities in our residence halls. This event is a great way to extend our community efforts in to the Macomb area. Our students love seeing the children and sharing Halloween activities with them."
