Pre-Law Symposium Feb. 16 at WIU

MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University Centennial Honors College will present the fourteenth annual Pre-Law Symposium at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16 in the University Union Lamoine Room.
This event is open free to the WIU community. Students interested in the study of law are encouraged to attend.
The symposium begins at 5 p.m. with an informational reception where students will have an opportunity to meet representatives from several invited law school admission officers and recruiters. Law schools include the DePaul University School of Law, Drake University School of Law, Hamline University School of Law, Indiana Tech Law School, John Marshall School of Law, Marquette University College of Law, Maurer School of Law (Indiana University), Northern Illinois University School of Law, Southern Illinois University School of Law, University of Illinois School of Law, University of Iowa College of Law, University of Minnesota Law School, University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, University of Wisconsin School of Law and the Valparaiso University School of Law.
Students will also have an opportunity to discuss career opportunities with WIU pre-law advisors from the Honors College, School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration and the departments of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies and Political Science.
Refreshments and beverages will be served and music provided by sophomore music major Jillian Escobar.
At 6 p.m., WIU alumna Heather Wier Vaught, a 1998 LEJA/sociology graduate and an attorney who serves as counsel to the Illinois Speaker of the House, will present the keynote speech, "Ten Things I Wish I Had Known Before Law School."
At approximately 6:30 p.m., there will be a panel discussion and a question and answer session on preparation for law school. Panelists include: Brett Furmanski, WIU, LEJA and Philosophy, 2014, 1L, Maurer School of Law, Indiana University; Samantha Morrow, WIU, History, 2013, 1L, John Marshall School of Law; Arsenio L. Mims, WIU, Political Science, 2011, JD, University of Missouri School of Law and Jim D. Lucie, Attorney at Law, WIU, Agricultural Economics, 1965, JD, University of Illinois School of Law.
