MACOMB, IL – East Leyden High School senior Cody Ott, of Franklin Park, IL, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which awards $10,000 per year to academically high-achieving students.

High school students with an ACT score of 30 or higher and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.

"Western is far enough away from home, where I'll have a sense of independence, but I can come home for a weekend if I want to," Ott said of his decision. "The atmosphere of Macomb seems very upbeat and lively, and the college has a beautiful campus and is very affordable. The selection of majors is also very broad, plus the atmosphere and school spirit are all very bright."

Ott said he expects to major in accounting at Western.

In high school, Ott participated in cross country, track, volleyball and choir, show choir and a men's acapella group.
