MACOMB, IL – The documentary film based on the life of actress Jean Seberg, which marked the culmination of a 25-year project between a Western Illinois University professor and his student, has been nominated for a documentary film award in Iowa.

"Movie Star: The Secret Lives of Jean Seberg," has been nominated for "Best Documentary" by the Iowa Motion Picture Association (IMPA). The 24th annual awards ceremony will be held in Pella, IA, on Saturday, May 2.

The film, which was screened at Western in March, was started during a film class taught by WIU Professor Richard Ness, who was then teaching at Iowa State University. The creator, Garry McGee, began researching the life of Seberg, an international film star and activist.

McGee completed an hour-long version of the documentary for Ness' class, but decided to expand the film a few years ago. Ness was also interviewed as part of the documentary.

A trailer for the film is available at jeansebergmovie.com.
