Joint Retirement Reception for Mors, Anderson and Thompson of WIU School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration Set for May 4

MACOMB, IL — A retirement reception will be held for Western Illinois University School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (SLEJA) Director Terry Mors, SLEJA Professor Barry Anderson and SLEJA Office Manager Judy Thompson from 2-4 p.m. Monday, May 4 in Horrabin Hall 1. Anderson will retire May 30. Mors and Thompson will retire June 30.

Mors was named SLEJA director in March 2011; prior to that, he served as interim director from July 1, 2010. He began working at Western in 2000. Mors has 15 years of full-time contributions in higher education at WIU, and he worked more than 17 years in law enforcement with the Gurnee (IL) Police Department in various positions, including as a patrol officer and a commander. Mors earned his doctorate in education from Northern Illinois University in 2002. He holds a master's degree in law enforcement and justice administration from Western and a bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University.

Anderson began teaching at Western in 1988 and began his full-time faculty duties as an assistant professor at Western in 1993. Prior to his career at WIU, Anderson practiced law for more than 30 years, with a concentration in the criminal law and juvenile law areas; argued numerous criminal cases in the Iowa Supreme Court; was elected Lee County (Iowa) attorney; and served as a magistrate judge in Lee County. Anderson earned his bachelor's degree from Grinnell College in 1965, his law degree from the University of Iowa Law School in 1968 and his master's degree in law enforcement and justice administration from Western in 1994.

Thompson began working at Western in 2000 as a secretary III in law enforcement and justice administration, and in October 2001, she was named the Civil Service Employee of the Month. Also in 2001, Thompson was named the Civil Service Employee of the Year, the first individual to be honored with this award at Western. In 2012, Thompson received the Distinguished Service Award.
