MACOMB, IL – Rock Bridge High School senior Julia Hill, of Columbia, MO, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which awards $10,000 per year to academically high-achieving students.

High school students with an ACT score of 30 or higher and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.

"I selected Western because it has a well established and reputable forensic chemistry major, and it has a close proximity to my home, but mainly because when I went to visit, I felt welcomed and it felt like home to me," Hill said. "On the visit I got to see the chemistry labs, and their state-of-the-art equipment, and I knew that Western was where I wanted to spend the next chapter of my life."

Fox said she expects to major in forensic psychology and minor in French at Western.

In addition to a bachelor's degree, Hill would like to obtain her master's degree in chemistry and would then like to work for a crime lab, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) or the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a forensic chemist.

At Western, Hill hopes to become part of WIU's Chemistry Club and be active within the WIU Centennial Honors College.

In high school, Hill participated in golf, National Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Future Problem Solving, FFA, 4H, Health Occupation Students of America, Junior Science and Engineering for Humanities Symposium, Junior Leadership Columbia and National History Day and she volunteered with a local Boy Scout troop and Everybody Eats, a local group the feeds those in need on Thanksgiving.
