MACOMB, IL – Once again, Western Illinois University students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of Macomb and surrounding communities will get "nearly naked" and will be "Freezin' for a Reason" on a Saturday evening outdoors this winter. WIU Campus Recreation is sponsoring the third annual Nearly Naked Mile, "Freezin' for a Reason," an untimed one-mile charity run/walk, on Western's Macomb campus, Wednesday, Feb. 24. Proceeds benefit the McDonough County YMCA for children's scholarships.

Students can register in the Campus Recreation Office. The extended early bird registration fee of $10 is due by Wednesday Feb. 10. Participants who register by Feb. 10 will receive a t-shirt. After Feb. 10, the registration fee will be $20. Registration can be made with cash or check, with checks payable to WIU Campus Recreation. Donations to the YMCA will also be accepted with cash or check form. Checks can be made payable to McDonough County YMCA.

On the day of the event, check-in will be on Main Court 2 in the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center. The race will start at 4 p.m., outside of the west entrance (Waggoner Hall side) of the Student Recreation Center. Participants can drop most of their clothes at the start of the event and pick them up at the finish line. It is up to the participants how much clothing they want to drop, but staff at Campus Recreation is asking participants to be respectful, yet stay with the theme "nearly naked" (and if you do shed your clothes, cover anything you would not want your grandma to see).

For more information about the event or to make a contribution, contact Campus Recreation at (309) 298-1228 or C-Recreation@wiu.edu.
