MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees (BOT) approved at its meeting today (March 11) to keep the 2016-17 Cost Guarantee rates (fees, room and meal plan) at the 2015-16 rates for incoming undergraduate and graduate students.

At the Dec. 18 Board meeting, the BOT approved a tuition recommendation to reduce the cost of tuition by three percent for new incoming undergraduate students who are accepted, and enroll, for the 2016-17 academic year. The Board also approved at the December meeting offering in-state tuition rates for all domestic undergraduate and graduate students. Previously, the in-state rate was available only to students from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin.

The 2016-17 tuition discount, as well as fees and room and meal plan, will remain set for those new incoming students under Western's Cost Guarantee program. Tuition, fees, room and meal plan are fixed for a four-year period and remain in effect as long as a student maintains continuous enrollment. Western was the first university in Illinois to offer this guarantee, and is the only university in the state to include fees and room and meal plan in that guarantee. Fees, room and meal plan rates for 2015-16 can be found at http://tinyurl.com/hnbqc8c. The 2016-17 reduced tuition rate for incoming students can be found at wiu.edu/news/newsrelease.php?release_id=13193.

The Board also approved an annual rate of $1,410 for student health insurance (a 2.17 increase from 2015-16), utility easements to the City of Macomb and SBA Communications and a lease of property to Ameren Illinois.

In addition, the Board appointed Student Trustee Michael Quigley as acting secretary.

The next regular board meeting will be held June 9-10 at the WIU-QC Riverfront campus.
