Lawson Retirement Reception June 20

MACOMB, IL - A retirement reception for Western Illinois University's Financial Aid Director Mary Lawson will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. Monday, June 20 in the Sherman Hall third floor auditorium.

Lawson began her career at WIU in 1976 as a Secretary I in the Financial Aid Office. Through 1980, Lawson was a Secretary II in the Placement Office (now Career Services), and Secretary III in the Department of Learning Resources.

In 1984, Lawson returned to WIU as a part-time secretary in the Infant and Preschool Center, then moved the Financial Aid Office in 1985, where she served as secretary in the loan area. In 1987, Lawson was promoted to adviser I. In 1988, she was promoted to adviser II and then to adviser III in 1990. In 2008, Lawson was promoted to adviser IV and in 2009 to administrative assistant.

In 2010, Lawson was named interim associate director of Financial Aid, and in January 2011, she was promoted to associate director of Financial Aid, where she served until 2015. In June 2015, Lawson was named director of Financial Aid.

Lawson will retire on June 30 after serving WIU for 35 years.
