MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Office Manager Sharon Thompson, of the College of Business and Technology, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for June.

Thompson was hired as an office support specialist in the WIU Department of Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising and Hospitality in January 2012. In June 2013, she was promoted to office manager and in June 2016 she transferred to her current position.

According to her nominators, Thompson is a "fabulous first contact person" and is a "great motivator and the central hub for everything that happens." She is also credited for taking the initiative to make everyone else's job easier, instead of waiting for work to be assigned.

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Connie Lincoln at CM-Lincoln@wiu.edu.
