MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University and Macomb community event, Celebrating Town & Gown, hosted by WIU President Jack Thomas and Macomb Mayor Mike Inman, will be held Thursday, Sept. 29 at The Forum in downtown Macomb. The 2016 event is the 10th anniversary for Celebrating Town & Gown event.

Celebrating Town & Gown, which kicks off Western's Homecoming, will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a short program scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. In addition to celebrating the past year's accomplishments, highlighted by Thomas and Inman, WIU Alumni Director Amy Spelman will announce the 2016 Honorary Alumni Award and Town & Gown Award recipients.

The Honorary Alumni Award, given annually since 1994, is presented to an individual who is not a WIU graduate but who has provided exceptional service to the WIU community. The Town & Gown Award, given annually since 2007, is presented to an individual who may or may not be a WIU graduate and has provided exceptional service to WIU and the Macomb community.
According to Spelman, "surprise" entertainment will also highlight this year's event. In addition, all guests will receive a complimentary raffle ticket for a chance to win tickets to the upcoming Alumni & Friends event at Cardinal Nation to see the the NHL's Winter Classic Blackhawks vs. Blues. Other prizes will also be raffled.
