MACOMB, IL – The Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center has launched a new initiative to strengthen the retention and achievement of Black male students at Western Illinois University.

According to Carl Simien, director of the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center, The Black Male Achievement Network (BMAN) aims to create a culture of brotherhood, community, academic achievement and professionalism among Black male students at Western. The Brothers' Roundtable is an ongoing program of BMAN.

"The program provides participants an opportunity to engage in conversations relevant to the development of students and to build relationships with their peers, as well as faculty and staff," Simien said.

September's Brothers' Roundtable included guest speakers WIU President Jack Thomas; Interim Vice President of Student Services Ron Williams; Associate Professor and Director of the Sport Management Program Algerian Hart and Associate Vice President for Student Services Jason Woods.

While the focus of the initiative is Black male students, all students are invited to participate.
