MACOMB, IL – A new Western Illinois University student organization, "WIU Fighting M.S." will host the "Fighting MS 5k" at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25 at Hanson Field.

The WIU student organization was started by Aaron Carr, a senior communication major from Peoria, IL, whose grandmother passed away from multiple sclerosis.

Carr said the 5k run/walk is new to the campus, and he wanted to create a physical activity to raise money for people who are impacted by the disease.

"I knew awareness had to be spread among people my age," said Carr.

The organization has set a $10,000 fundraising goal for the event.

Registration is $25 per person and can be completed at bit.ly/2lQ7AgD. Donations can be made by visiting givebutter.com/63b84x. Follow the event on Facebook at facebook.com/wiufms.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
