MACOMB, IL – The 10th annual Maurine Magliocco Lecture Series in the WIU Department of English will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 7 in Morgan Hall, room 109.

This year's lecture will be delivered by Associate Professor of English Birger Vanwesenbeeck, from the State University of New York at Fredonia. Vanwesenbeeck is the co-editor of two books, "William Gaddis: The Last of Something" and "Stefan Zweig and World Literature."

The lecture at Western is being called a "juxtaposition of Edward Said's and Theodor Adorno's concepts of late style, with "The Waning of the Middle Ages," by the Dutch historian Johan Huizinga.

The lecture series was established in October 2006. A $30,000 endowment commitment supports an annual lecture in literature, film, theory or the state of the discipline. Magliocco taught English at Western for 37 years, retiring in 2004.

Sponsors for the program are Western's Department of English and the College of Arts and Sciences. For additional information about the lecture series, visit wiu.edu/cas/english/magliocco/.
