MACOMB, IL -- The Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary on campus Sunday, Oct. 1.

The center, named for former Western Illinois University President Donald S. Spencer, opened in 1997. The facility was a student initiative and a referendum was passed by the students to fund the construction. Matt Bills was the SGA president at the time.

The facility was expanded in 2008 based on the use of the building.

To commemorate the special day, cake will be served at the recreation center from 1-4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2. From Monday-Friday, Oct. 2-6, anyone who is eligible to purchase a center membership will be given free admission.
