MACOMB, IL -- Help Western Illinois University kick off the holiday giving season and inspire Leathernecks everywhere to come together in generosity as we participate in #GivingTuesday today (Nov. 28). The goal is to have at least 250 (or more!) donors participating in this year's event.

There are three ways to participate:

1) Make a gift - You can even set up a custom gift match or challenge gift.

2) Become a #LeathernecksGive advocate - Click on the 'Advocates' tab and sign up to inspire others to participate and track your impact. As a #LeathernecksGive advocate, Western alumni, faculty, staff and students can drive the online effort through social media sharing, and also issue their own challenge gifts and matching gifts that day. Advocates can also track the number of donors and dollars raised resulting from their online efforts.

3) Take an "unselfie" - Show your Leatherneck Pride by taking a picture of yourself holding a sign that explains why you give back and post it to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Remember: Tag your post #LeathernecksGive and #GivingTuesday and make it public so we can see it.

Visit Western's official #GivingTuesday campaign page at http://bit.ly/WesternGT17 to make a secure online gift, view our donor wall and become a #LeathernecksGive advocate to help promote the effort online and inspire additional gifts.

"We need your help on Nov. 28 to make our #GivingTuesday an even bigger success than last year," WIU Director of Annual Giving Tim Hallinan '95 said. "You can give to the area of Western that is most important to you and have a direct impact on the lives of our current students, faculty and staff."

Members of the Leatherneck family are also encouraged to spread the word about #GivingTuesday. Share how you're participating by using the hashtags #GivingTuesday, #LeathernecksGive and #WIU on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
