MACOMB, IL -- "Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the one nearest you." - Mother Teresa.

Western Illinois University's Office of Public Safety (OPS) is taking that to heart and helping one nearest to them .... Officer Krystal Scott, who is undergoing treatment for stage four colon cancer. A benefit for Scott, hosted by OPS Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 169, will be held from 4:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Macomb American Legion Post No. 6, 221 E. Washington St.

The benefit will feature a spaghetti dinner catered by Italian Express, silent and live auctions -- featuring gift certificates to local businesses to WIU decor and athletics tickets to homemade pies and more -- and raffle drawings for gift certificates from area businesses. All proceeds will go to Scott.

"Krystal is a hard-working, dedicated and passionate individual, in and out of uniform, and she is a wonderful single mother to her daughter," said Det. Sarah Worthington, who is co-coordinating the benefit. "She is the last person to ever ask for help, but we want to provide her with as much support as we can."

The dinner, which is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under, includes spaghetti, garlic bread, salad and a beverage (take-outs available). In addition, a variety of homemade desserts will be available by donation.

Tickets are available at the door, or in advance at the Office of Public Safety/Mowbray Hall, or by calling (309) 298-1949 or emailing publicsafety@wiu.edu
