MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Communication will host its 25th annual Wayne N. Thompson Professor Lecture at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8 in the University Union Sandburg Theatre.

The lecture, "Can You Take It With You?: Family Communication's Impact on Conflict Responses," will be delivered by WIU Communication Professor Lisa Miczo. The lecture is open free to the public.

Miczo received her bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication from Kansas State University, her master's degree in interpersonal communication from the University of Kansas and her doctoral degree in communication from the University of Arizona.

Miczo came to Western in 2000, and teaches classes in interpersonal communication, nonverbal communication, communication theory and family communication. She has been awarded the Thompson Professor Faculty Research award twice previously and was given the award for Outstanding Teaching for the College of Fine Arts and Communication in 2006.

The Wayne N. Thompson Lecture is named to honor WIU alumnus Wayne Thompson, who was a nationally-recognized professor of speech communication, who earned his undergraduate degree at WIU. An endowment in his name helps sponsor a number of department programs to enhance learning and scholarship in the field of communication, including this lecture, and the annual Thompson Lecture, which is presented by a prominent scholar in the field.
